So now we’re going to learn how to count all the way to ten. So that you can really impress your friends. Listen to the speaker count to 10. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā jiǔ shí Again, a bit faster. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā jiǔ shí Listen to the speaker count to 8. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā Repeat after the speaker by pairs. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā Try saying “7, 8”. qī bā qī bā Both are in the high tone. Try counting to 8 by pairs ahead of the speaker. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā Try counting to 8 alone and repeat. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā Give the odd numbers so far: 1, 3, 5, 7 and repeat. yī sān wǔ qī Give the even numbers so far: 2, 4, 6, 8 and repeat. èr sì liù bā What’s 7? qī What’s 8? bā What’s 5? wǔ What’s 6? liù What’s 8 again? bā What’s 7 again? qī Alright, you’re getting pretty good at this. Now listen to the speaker count to ten. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā jiǔ shí Repeat after the speaker by pairs. yī èr sān sì wǔ liù qī bā jiǔ shí Try saying “9, 10”. jiǔ shí jiǔ shí 9 is in the low tone. What other number have you had in the low tone? wǔ 10 is the first number you’ve had in the rising tone. Repeat “9, 10” after the speaker, concentrating on getting the tones right. jiǔ shí jiǔ shí Say, “7, 8, 9, 10” ahead of the speaker and then repeat. qī bā jiǔ shí Notice that the Pinyin for the number 9 is abbreviated, leaving out the O which is clearly present in the pronunciation.
