Today we’re going to be doing a little bit of “this” and a little bit of “that”. In the last lesson you learned the word “něi” in the low tone meaning “which”. The word for “that” is the falling tone syllable “nèi”. Listen to “that Comrade”. nèiwèi Tóngzhì nèiwèi Tóngzhì nèiwèi Tóngzhì The only difference between “něiwèi Tóngzhi” (“which Comrade?”) and “nèiwèi Tóngzhì” (“that Comrade”) is the difference between a low tone and a falling tone. The same was true in the difference between “nǎr” (“where”) and “nàr” (“there”). This is a good lesson in the importance of tones.
